About Us
A Stitch for A Smile is an initiative started by the love for crochet, stuffed animals, and a desire to share some of my knowledge to bring about a socio-economic impact across various strata of society. We aim to not only bring warmth to young children of the economically weaker section, in pediatric wards of hospitals and care centres but to support skill-building and income-generation amongst the young women in our community.
The initiative involves teaching college-going girls or girls working as day workers in households, how to crochet and make soft stuffed toys. These are then dry-cleaned, wrapped to make them safe and easy to clean before being distributed to ill children who are immunocompromised.
This project focuses on bringing joy to not just the children receiving the handcrafted creations but bringing a smile to the faces of the women making them as they see their new skill take up a tangible form and are able to use it to support their education and families. Thus, each stitch crocheted is for those 2 smiles!
